A Celebration of the Donkey

It’s’ selfie time folks!

There have been many times over the last two years when we have feared for the future survival of the sanctuary as fund raising has and continues to be very tough. However, we are back!

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Mike Kelly and his team from Kelly Scaffolding, Raphoe who have built what we believe to be the largest donkey statue in the world, whom we have named Hector!

We are hopeful that many visitors will flock to see our amazing 60ft donkey who has been constructed to celebrate and recognise the contribution that the humble donkey has made to Irish life over the decades. From being an essential mode of transport, to bringing the turf home from the bog, our long eared, gentle friends often find themselves forgotten in the modern world. Hector is also just a much needed bit of fun in these challenging times!

We depend entirely on public support for our survival and hope that many visitors will make the trip to see our giant friend!

‘Hector’ will be lit at night so watch out for him if you are in the Castledooey area!
